Brand Context — St. Peter's Prayer Placement (v1)

Built: 2026-09-14 · Industry: spirituality / devotional services · Status: all 9 stages complete Avatar: Kathleen "Kathy" Doyle, 61, Parma Heights, Ohio · Mechanism: The Witnessed Carry

A living folder. Re-running /brand-context in this project triggers a refresh, not a rebuild — it pulls a fresh evidence pack, diffs it against evidence/2026-09-14/, and regenerates only the stages whose inputs actually moved. History lives in evidence/ and CHANGELOG.md.

The offer this describes

A buyer writes a prayer on a web form, pays $34.90, and receives by email within 3 days a photograph of her personalized prayer card resting inside St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City. The persona who carries it is "Fr. M." Ladder: bumps (candle $4.99, second slot $9.00) → OTO1 second prayer $14 → OTO2 "Voice of the Sanctuary" audio $9.90 → Monthly Prayer Membership $9.90/mo or $79/yr. Positioning is categorical, never comparative: service fee, not a donation · we do not sell outcomes · we are not the church.

Audience: US + Canada, women 40+, Catholic and devotional. Fulfilment is AI image generation — an internal fact that never appears in customer-facing copy.

Key insights

The mechanism — The Witnessed Carry

Big idea: her prayer was never unanswered — it was unwitnessed.

That distinction is the whole offer. It is theologically safe for a Catholic audience, because it never suggests God failed to hear. It names a real absence she has carried for years without words for it: nothing outside her own head has ever confirmed the prayer went anywhere. The service closes exactly that gap and nothing more — her own words, carried by a named man, photographed where they rest, delivered as durable external proof.

UMP: every existing way of handing a prayer over takes it from her and never comes back to say what became of it. UMS: one person carries her actual words into the place, and brings back a photograph of where he set them down.

Life Force 8 — top 3

  1. Care and protection of loved ones — dominant. She almost never buys for herself.
  2. Freedom from fear, pain and danger — the fear is that the prayer went unwitnessed, not unanswered.
  3. Survival and life extension — displaced onto the person she is praying for.

LAB Profile — the patterns that decide the copy

  • Convincer channel: See, ~55%. The photograph is not proof of the argument, it is the argument.
  • Convincer mode: repetition — Number of Times 40%, Period of Time 30%. She will not buy on first exposure. Retargeting is a requirement, not an optimisation, and the repeat touch restates the same claim in the same words rather than escalating it.
  • Mismatching ~40%. She is actively hunting the seam. Any visible persuasion device — a timer, a testimonial wall, an exclamation point — is the seam.
  • Hear ~15% is precisely the market for the OTO2 audio product.

The 6 necessary beliefs, in install order

  1. The witness gap — what hurt was never having anything outside her own head to show the prayer went anywhere.
  2. Existing solutions — every way she has handed a prayer over takes it and never reports back.
  3. The solution type — she needs one person to carry her own words there and show her where he set them down.
  4. Capability — plain words are enough, a phone is enough, and wanting this does not make her foolish.
  5. This specific offer — she can tell it is different because it keeps refusing to promise things.
  6. Timing — the only clock that matters is the one already running in her own house.

Belief 5 is the hardest to install and has no proof surface at launch. Its proof is a pattern of restraint, and a pattern has no partial credit — one softened line anywhere breaks it.

Top 5 hooks

  1. "There is a difference between a prayer unanswered and a prayer nobody ever witnessed."
  2. "I cannot promise you how God answers a prayer — no honest man can."
  3. "There are no testimonials on this page yet, because there are no customers yet."
  4. "A shrine's own site takes your intention free — that is the sending, not the seeing."
  5. "You have prayed so much you could have been ordained by now."

All 20 hooks in Stage 8 score 5/6 or 6/6, cover 6 angles, and map to the 6 beliefs.

Ad testing variables (for meta-ads-expert / CBO ad sets)

Meta removed religion from detailed targeting in 2024 and removed religion-based exclusions in 2025. Targeting cannot qualify this audience. Creative does the qualifying — which makes these variables the whole test.

Persona variables

  1. The daughter praying for an ageing parent
  2. The mother praying for an adult child who has stopped calling
  3. The griever praying for someone already gone

Pain-angle variables

  1. The witness gap — years of prayer with nothing to show it went anywhere
  2. Carrying someone else's crisis with no way to act on it
  3. Grief with nowhere to put it

Desire-angle variables

  1. To have done something rather than nothing
  2. To see it with her own eyes
  3. To give something to someone she cannot be there for

Objection-focus variables

  1. Trust — "is this a scam" (the category has a public exposé against it)
  2. Theology — the simony objection, argued with scripture in 6 of 15 evidence threads
  3. Price — what exactly $34.90 buys

Differentiation notes

  • Competitors are hitting: the unanswered-prayer pain opener and physical relic specificity. Both saturated.
  • Open lanes: grief and memorial at scale, third-party gifting, and radical honesty as the hook itself. No advertiser in the category puts "service fee, not a donation" in the ad copy — it is buried on-site if it appears at all.
  • Six of eight known operators went dark between 2026-09-12 and 2026-09-14. St. Peter's Basilica is unclaimed in live ad inventory today.

Open risks this build surfaced

These are findings, not opinions. Each needs a decision before launch. They are not copy tweaks.

  1. The candle claim contradicts the only first-hand evidence. The copy asserts a candle is lit beside the card in six places, and Bump 1 sells a second candle at $4.99. The one real visitor account in the evidence pack reports no candles were available in the Basilica. Stage 9 rates this the reason 0 of 8 live Meta ads pass review as written. Highest-severity finding in the build.
  2. "Not a rendering." appears in the live copy. It is a production-method claim, and it is checkably false given AI fulfilment. Stage 8 banned production-method claims in both directions.
  3. Character cap contradiction — the copy promises "up to 500 characters" and "your exact words"; the locked card-fit cap is roughly 220.
  4. Delivery window contradiction — 5–7 days in five places in the copy kit against the locked 3-day promise. Ad review looks at the landing page, so this is an approval risk as well as a trust one.
  5. Two false claims already flagged in the decisions doc — the annual plan is "save $39", not two months free; OTO1 is "less than half", not half.
  6. The "Fr." title implies ordained standing the brand does not claim elsewhere.
  7. Zero customer proof at launch, in a category whose own operators were publicly exposed for AI-generated testimonials. Stage 8 Section 6 specifies what to run instead until real ones exist.
  8. Bump 2 is undecided — the mailed cross is dead; the 24-hour rush delivery and the in-image blessed cross are both still proposals.

Every one of these lands on Belief 5, the belief that this offer is different because it refuses to overclaim. That is why they matter more here than they would for another brand.

What the evidence could not support

Named honestly so nothing downstream asserts them as established:

  • "You'll never get to Rome." No verbatim quote anywhere supports the deprivation framing. What the evidence shows is the opposite posture — people who are going, offering to carry others' intentions.
  • Spanish-language audience psychology. Zero Spanish forum material. The three planned Spanish ads currently rest on an English-language avatar.
  • Marriage-in-crisis language. No direct voice-of-customer behind Ad 2, one of the strongest openers.
  • Grief and memorial organic format and scale. The Reddit grief evidence is strong; the social evidence was never searched by bereavement terms.
  • Independent competitor reviews. Under 50 verified items across every direct competitor combined, platform-skewed negative.

Next steps

  1. Resolve the eight open risks above, starting with the candle claim. Until it is settled, the ad set cannot ship — Stage 9's audit says so explicitly.
  2. Rewrite the copy kit to the decisions doc and to Stage 8's voice guidelines.
  3. Hand Stage 8 to creative — it is the hook bank, the templates and the brand voice in one file.
  4. Hand Stage 9 to the media buyer before the first ad is built, not after the first rejection.
  5. Run a refresh after launch, once real customer voice and real reviews exist. That is the first refresh that will move stages 3 and 5 materially.
  6. Optional Stage 10 — a drop-in DESIGN.md for the funnel build — was not run. It is available when the website work starts.
